What is YK-11?
YK-11 is a steroidal selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) primarily associated with muscle-building goals. What makes it unusual is its laboratory evidence for increasing follistatin, a protein that can counter pathways that naturally restrict muscle development, giving YK-11 a different research profile from more conventional SARMs.
Why YK-11?
Muscle Building
YK-11 activates androgen signalling involved in muscle development, making increased muscle growth the main reason it attracts interest among gym-goers.
Follistatin Pathway
Laboratory research found YK-11 increased follistatin, which can oppose myostatin-related signalling that normally acts as a natural brake on muscle growth.
Distinct From SARMs
Its combination of androgen-receptor activity and effects on follistatin makes YK-11 mechanistically different from better-known SARMs such as LGD-4033.
Who is YK-11 Popular With?
YK-11 is primarily of interest to experienced gym-goers and bodybuilders focused on muscle growth and body composition. Its appeal comes from its unusual combination of androgen-receptor activity and laboratory findings involving follistatin and muscle-development pathways, rather than strong human performance data.
Research & Evidence
YK-11 has a much thinner evidence base than SARMs such as LGD-4033, with no meaningful human clinical trials demonstrating muscle or strength gains. The most relevant evidence comes from laboratory cell research and animal research, so claims about muscle-building effects in people remain unproven.
Laboratory Research — Follistatin & Muscle Development
A 2013 laboratory study using mouse muscle cells found that YK-11 increased several regulators involved in muscle-cell development and produced a notable increase in follistatin. Blocking follistatin reduced YK-11’s effect, suggesting this pathway plays an important role in its anabolic activity. These were cell-culture findings, not results from people.
Animal Research — Muscle Wasting & Myostatin
A 2021 mouse study examined YK-11 in severe illness where muscle wasting was occurring. Researchers found that inhibiting myostatin-related activity with YK-11 was associated with reduced muscle wasting alongside other changes. This provides further evidence that YK-11 can affect muscle-regulating pathways, but it does not establish muscle-building results in healthy humans.

Yk11 is my second favourite sarm (S23 being my favourite). Really good lean, dry, vascular, grainy gains. Any weight I gained was nearly all lean tissue as apposed to bloating up on LGD. Gym workouts felt absolutely effortless.

Pretty happy thus far with the YK11, i’m on a recomp at the moment but I am steadily gaining muscle with no extra fat based on a clean 3500 calorie per day diet. generally if i am on 3500 i drop off due to my metabolism but hasnt been an issue
