What are SARMs?
SARMs were originally developed for potential medical applications but later gained popularity in bodybuilding and fitness communities. Unlike traditional anabolic steroids, SARMs are commonly taken orally, typically in capsule or liquid form. Different compounds have distinct characteristics and research histories, with MK677, RAD-140 and LGD-4033 among the most widely recognised.
SARMs Research and Clinical Studies
Several SARMs have undergone human clinical trials. A 2011 study involving 120 older adults found that Ostarine (MK-2866) increased lean body mass and improved certain measures of physical function over 12 weeks. A separate 2013 study involving 76 healthy men found that LGD-4033 increased lean body mass over 21 days, although researchers also observed changes in testosterone and cholesterol levels. Both studies were relatively short, and neither established long-term safety.
